Venue in Focus: the Digital Cinema

The call for participants is open to filmmakers working within Academia or academics working with Film. It is also open to filmmakers and creative practitioners outside Academia who are looking for new ideas or novel collaborations.

University of York Digital Cinema

The film zone Communicate will be held in Heslington Studios‘ state-of-the-art cinema.

We want to take full advantage of this venue by encouraging participants to present work that speaks to the idea of ‘the cinematic’ and the space of ‘the cinema’.

We invite participants who want to reflect on their own practice in relation to the cinematic. Indicative themes include but are not restricted to: the cinematic experience, collective audience and the space of the cinema; the theory and practice in/of cinematic art; the art of the creative non-fiction; academic research and fiction film; the limits and possibilities of expanded cinema. While ‘the Cinematic’ provides a focus for the Communicate zone, participants are free to submit projects / presentations that showcase work and discuss themes about any aspect of film practice.

Communicate encourages open and democratic exchanges designed to bring like-minded and disparate folk together in order to showcase work (excerpts of finished work and/or work-in-progress) to stimulate discussion and generate new ways of thinking, feeling and looking.
Contact zone leaders Dr Ian McDonald or Dr Geetha Jayaraman if you would like to discuss your idea before submitting.

Please hurry – deadline for submission is 4pm on March 29.
